Time Machine Terms of Service
These terms are an agreement between you and [Operator] ("we"). They cover the Time Machine website and the Time Machine web app, which you open with tm ui. The free tm command line tool is covered by its own open source license, MIT.
1. Who can use Time Machine
You must be at least 13. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you and must be the one who pays. If you use Time Machine for an organization, you agree for that organization.
2. What Time Machine does
Time Machine records save points of a software project on your computer. A save point can include your Git history, files you choose, the names of settings you choose, and the definition of your environment. Time Machine can run a check you set up, find the most recent save point that passed, and prepare a recovery branch and a recovery copy.
3. What Time Machine does not do
Please read this part. Time Machine only brings back captured project state.
- It only brings back what it captured. Every save point lists what was not captured and what needs manual recovery.
- It never stores the values in config files like
.env, only key names. Secrets in other files are skipped only when they match known patterns. You must restore keys, passwords and tokens yourself. - It does not undo emails, payments, deploys, or changes to outside services or production databases.
- A check passing means your check passed. It does not mean your project has no bugs.
- It is not a full disk backup. Keep your own backups.
- It does not push, merge or deploy anything. You decide what to do with a recovery branch.
4. Your project stays yours
Your code and files stay on your computer. We do not upload them. You own your projects and your save points. Save points use plain Git and plain files, so you can keep using them without us.
5. Your responsibilities
- Checks you set up run commands on your computer. You are responsible for what those commands do.
- Review a recovery branch before you switch to it or ship it.
- Only use Time Machine on projects you have the right to copy and run.
- Keep your license key private. It is the only proof of your purchase.
6. The web app license Draft
Draft, pending lawyer review. Checkout is not open yet, so nothing is for sale today. This section describes the license as announced. It takes effect only when checkout opens and these terms leave draft.
- Price. $50, paid once. No subscription and no renewal.
- Who. One person. You may use the key on any number of computers you own or control.
- What it covers. Without a key, the web app lists up to 3 projects at a time. With it, you may use the web app on any number of your own projects.
- Updates. Updates to the web app while we ship them. We do not promise a schedule.
- Refund. Email preston@unvibe.site within 14 days of your purchase and we refund it. After you activate the key, we owe no refund beyond what the law requires.
- Your key. The key holds an opaque purchase id, the plan and the issue date. Keep it private. To see it again, sign in at /account with a one-time code sent to the email you gave at checkout.
- The CLI. The
tmcommand line tool stays free under the MIT license.
What never needs a key. Restoring or recovering a save point never requires a key. Your history and your exports are never locked behind a payment.
7. Acceptable use
Do not use Time Machine to break the law, to attack or test systems you do not own or have permission to test, to get around license checks, or to resell the paid app without our written permission.
8. Our software
We own the Time Machine app, the name and the website. Subject to these terms and your plan, we give you a personal, non-exclusive license to use the app. Open source parts are covered by their own licenses, which win if they conflict with these terms.
9. Feedback
If you send ideas, we may use them without owing you anything.
10. Other services
Time Machine works with services like GitHub and Stripe. Their terms apply to your use of them. We are not responsible for them.
11. Disclaimers
Time Machine is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we make no promises that it will be error free, that a save point will be complete, or that a recovery will succeed. Some places do not allow these disclaimers, so parts of this may not apply to you.
12. Limit of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost data, lost profits, or indirect damages. Our total liability is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or $50. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
13. Ending these terms
You can stop using Time Machine at any time. If you break these terms, your license ends and we stop supporting it. Your local save points stay on your computer either way.
14. Changes to these terms
If we make a material change, we will post it here at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you do not agree, you can stop using Time Machine before then.
15. Law and disputes
California law applies, without regard to its conflict of law rules. You can bring a claim in small claims court or in the state or federal courts in Contra Costa County, California. If you are a consumer in another country, your local consumer laws still protect you.
